A Question For Messianic Believers
draft
Jesus/Yeshua LIVES,
and he left his tallit at the tomb:
John 20:
v5 And having-stooped-alongside he-is-looking-at the-linen-cloths
lying; however he-went not in.
v6 Therefore Simon Peter is-coming following him,
and he-went-in into the tomb, and he-is-observing the linen-cloths lying,
v7 And the handkerchief which was
on his head, not lying with the linen-cloths, BUT
having-been-and-still-enfolded separately into one place.
This bible fact establishes that Jesus, upon being stood-up again (resurrected) by the Father YHVH, was NOT wearing his tallit. IF you are understanding Jewish custom, then you are seeing and knowing that his tallit is distinct from his burial linen-cloths, and that his tallit was previously folded separately into one place.. This is some serious "Hebrew-roots" study...
Question: - in the order of Melchizedek - is a tallit required physical attire? is a "stole" a tallit?
First, a bit of a digression into the Tabernacle, in order to better understand the tallit:
Noting the Tabernacle was a copy and shadow of the original in Heaven, and of future things.
Hebrews 8:5 "They-who are-serving (a) copy and (a) shadow of-the (things) in-(the)-heavenlies, according-as Moses was-and-still-is-divinely-informed of-future (things) to-be-accomplishing the tabernacle; for, you-be-seeing, he-is-stating, you-will-make all-(things) according-to the pattern namely-the (one) having-been-pointed-to for-you in the mountain;
Noting the Tabernacle was 10 curtains.
Exodus 26:1 (KJV) "Moreover thou shalt make the tabernacle [with] ten curtains [of] fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet: [with] cherubims of cunning work shalt thou make them.:
Note that
[with] is added to the translation, and not in the
Hebrew text; the correct reading is "thou shalt make
the tabernacle ten curtains...", i.e. the
tabernacle IS the ten curtains.
John 1:1 and 1:14 explain that Jesus/Yeshua is the Word, and that the Word was made FLESH, and Tabernacle with us.
Jesus is also named Immanuel, meaning the God with us.
I mention these things to direct attention to the 10 curtains, that is the Tabernacle, that covers the 48 boards and the Ark of the Covenant with it's Mercy Seat (propitiatory as in Romans 3:25 and Exodus 25:17.
I will note now and hope to explain, that the boards of the Tabernacle structure, which is the structure under the Tabernacle (the 10 co-joined white, blue, purple & scarlet curtains) represents the New Testament believers, AKA the Body of Christ/Messiah.
When we connect the colors of the veil (white, blue, purple, scarlet) with the matching colored garments that Jesus wore during his arrest and trial, and realize that the Tabernacle is proportionate to a tallit; we then realize that we indeed dwell safely in the shadow of HIS wings, or HIS tallit.
Psalm 57:1 Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until [these] calamities be overpast.
"wings" is from כנף kanaph,
Strong's Concordance has:
1) wing, extremity, edge,
winged, border, corner, shirt
a) wing
b) extremity
1) skirt, corner (of garment)
Again in Psalm 17:8
"Keep me as the apple
of the eye, hide me under the shadow of
thy wings,"
(see also Psalm 36:7, 63:7)
These scriptures are in accord with Isaiah 26:20: "Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast"
What "chambers"? בַחֲדָרֶיךָ vah chadah rekah
(I think, "in side chambers")
Strongs shows "חדר cheder"
Thayer Lexicaon has:
So the we see that this "chamber" is specifically a hidden inner private chamber within or covered by a tent! WOW!
Specifically, this is the Holy of Holies under (and within) the Tabernacle curtain! This confirms that the Tabernacle of God is the "Wings" or "tallit" that we hide/dwell in.
This will bring us to the word "side", of which an illustration made by Ralph Mount in his book, The Law Prophesied, pp68, will explain much: Notice the relationship between the Hebrew word for "thigh/side", "yarekah" and the word for "chamber", חדר cheder.
This illustrates that the Tabernacle is seen as a shadow of the Body of Messiah.
I may add some explanation later (you may go to The Law Prophesied and read the surrounding pages now) but these things will suffice to show that the Tabernacle was a shadow that pointed to future and better things. In this, we should understand that so too the Law was a shadow that pointed to future and better things. Believers in Messiah, whom is the Beginning and the End, are NOW, already participating in things future as the Body of Messiah. This seems to be a difficult concept for some Messianic believers, and they erroneously try to force Jesus to "do" things now in addition to his sacrifice on the cross.
Jesus said: "It is finished."
Hopefully this page will help show that Yeshua/Jesus IS the ALMIGHTY ELOHIM YHVH. He is not required to wear a tallit, and neither are we. IF you elect to wear a tallit, fine; please do not therein enclosed fail to see the "blue" in the outermost edges, or fringes, of God's Tabernacle that covers/overshadows the Body of Messiah....
Back on track Concerning Melchizedek:
A pretty good explanation of Melchizedek is found here.
"It is my opinion that
Melchizedek was a pre-incarnate appearance of the
Lord, not as the Son but as He
was before He was incarnated—the Logos or Word of
God."
maybe, but at least
A good distinction between Levitical priesthood and the superiority of the Malki-zedek priesthood
It is better explained here:
Secret Place of the Most High by John Parsons
As the timeless king and priest of God, Malki-Tzedek is a "theophany," or a revelation of the LORD our God Yeshua before He emptied Himself and made his descent to this world
Yom Kippur and the Gospel by John Parsons
and more on Melchizedek here.
on the one hand:
Melchizedek was probably
possibly
Shem
- and this is allowing some problems in this (Rabbinical) thinking:
* if Abram lived with Noah & Shem as a child (Book of Jubilees),
it appears Shem's position in relation to Abram (and all) changed - as Abram paid tithes to Melchizedek/(Shem?)
that is, Shem was previously a teacher to Abram, yet later regarded by Abram as a priest to the most high God.
on the Jewish hand,
* Interestingly, Sefer Ha-Yasher (Book of Jasher), calls him not Melchi-zedek (righteous king),
but rather Adoni-zedek (righteous YHVH). Yet also states Adoni-zedek is Shem!
I find it interesting that Rashi says so little about Melchi-Zedek, and less about the priesthood of Melchi-Zedek.
HELLO, this (Abraham's time) is not the LEVITICAL priesthood. Not Sinai yet!
To be sure, we have the book "To the Hebrews", and Romans, and MUCH MORE, ("How much more their fullness?),
Not boasting, just in awe in Yah's amazing Grace/Favor.
But note
Hebrews 5:11 "Concerning whom the word is to-be-saying much to-us and difficult-to-interpret, since YOU-have-become-and-still-are-sluggish to-the reports."
and so -
On the other, Christian, hand
- some Christians say Jesus was Malchi-Zedek
and on another Christian hand, some say NO, Jesus was only in similitude of Melchizedek
on the other other Christian hand....
Malchi-Zedek was NOT "made like unto the Son of God"
BUT RATHER
"having-resembled-and-still-resembling to-the son of-the God" Heb. 7:3
And on the other other other Christian hand, (not really keeping track of the "others" here)
Jesus/Yeshua WAS NOT A HUMAN BEING.
Think about it - Emmanuel - God with us.
A body is not necessarily a human being. Angels are not human beings, yet can appear as a body.
"Flesh" is not necessarily a human being.
John 1:14 "And the Word came-to-be flesh, and he-tabernacled among us, and we-beheld his glory, glory as of-an only-begotten from the Father full of-favor and truth."
Note especially:
Hebrews 10:5 "On-this-account coming-in into the world he-is-saying: You-willed not sacrifice and offering, but you-yourself-rendered (a) body thoroughly-fit for-me;"
Philippians 2:v5
YOU-be-having this opinion in YOU which also (is) in Messiah Jesus,
v6 Who existing in form of-God considered not the being equal with-God (a
thing for) seizure,
v7 BUT he-emptied himself having-taken form of (a) slave, having-become in
similitude of-MEN;
(------in
similitude - NOT A HUMAN BEING-------)
v8 And having-been-found in-figure as MAN he-humbled himself
having-become obedient as-far-as death, but death of-(a)-cross.
v9 and on-this-account the God exceedingly-exalted him and bestowed-a-favor
to-him the name, namely-the-one above every name,
v10 In-order-that in the name of-Jesus every knee might-bend
of-(those)-in-(the)-heavenly and of-(those)-earthly and of-(those)-subterranean,
v11 And every tongue might-acknowledge that
Jesus Messiah (is) Jehovah with-reference-to glory of-God (the) Father,
So - while Jesus' body was (possibly) not the same as the body he previously appeared to man (in Garden of Eden, burning bush, etc) HE was and is always the ONLY visible image of YHVH.
So then, it is quite possible that Yeshua/Jesus previously appeared as Melchi-Zedek/Malchi-Zedek/Melchisedek, but in Hebrews 7:15 -"And it-is still more-exceedingly obvious, if a different priest is-himself-standing-up according-to the similarity of-Melchisedec."
The scripture (the Holy Spirit) is telling us Jesus was in similitude of man, similarity of Melchisedec.
[Note - "another" - ετερος heteros - another-different, rather than allos - another-same...i.e., different than the priesthood of Judah - Heb. 7:14]
There is much more
see "The Truth about Jesus if you really want to know", by R.H.Mount., if you really want to know. There are about 20 cassettes with this lesson....
Extra credit question for the "Hebrew Roots" disciple:
Q.Did Jethro teach Moshe for 40 years, or did Moshe teach Jethro for 40 years?
A. Moshe got advice from Jethro (Priest of Midian). This was after manna received and prior to receiving Torah on Sinai (Jethro taught Moses)
Ex 19:20
Jethro instructed Moses to "teach them the statutes and the laws" and "show them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do."These "statutes and laws" existed prior to the giving of the Ten Commandments and the Law.
This too is our "Hebrew roots".
