T h e    C o t o p a x i a n   P r e s s (this still cracks me up)

Between Dec.1994 and about Nov. 2011, I was employed by the Colorado Department of Transportation, on Patrol 60 in Cotopaxi, Colorado.

Then one day, I fell down, on  July 6, 2009

-and suffered from a medial meniscus tear and a large extruded disc fragment (photo).

I could no longer meet the physical requirements of the job due to medical restrictions.

So that job is history...

But I do have a several thousand photos taken during those years...

My wife and kids hiked up the RR tracks and took some photos.

The Rockslide at Cotopaxi is at mile marker 244.

Both lanes blocked, no one was under it when it fell, thank God.

There are two divisions at CDOT:  Maintenance...

and Engineering.

Maintenance maintains and repairs to Standard specifications that sub-standard work which Engineering pays private contractors for.

UPDATE: CDOT has long since moved their HQ in Pueblo...I have no idea what became of the memorial. Just an historic account here:

With a lot of help from a lot of people, we built this memorial to fellow workers who were killed on the job.
