Region 2 Memorial Project

It takes awhile to collect rock for a project like this. The rock would come from our clean-up of rockslides along our Patrol in the canyon.
Often, I'm in the loader during ditch cleaning operations, and so during the day I would set out flat rocks that I thought would work well for a wall. I'm also building another wall (besides this one) at our yard in Cotopaxi. At the end of a day of ditch cleaning, we would load a truck with flat rocks and the loader bucket and take them to the yard.
As time went on, it became apparent to me that I wouldn't be given any time to work on this project. I kept track of the time allotted for me to work on this project and the rock retaining wall in our yard: May 2007 to March 2008 = 18hrs. There were other factors, like our loader being parked for 5 weeks of the summer at Texas Creek "in case it rains and some rocks come down".
So I came in on the weekends and worked after hours and came up with an alternate design.
Soon it became apparent that this wasn't large enough....and I was out of working room in so I moved it...and made it bigger...
My plan was to attach a plaque to the raised rock in the top corner of the above design.
Below, details.....it's an angel!!! Ok, sort of a Hallmark card angel?
This was completed on Nov. 7, 2008.
On Jan 4, we had to get these out of the yard because we were getting chips for the chipseal project this year.
So I cleaned off the snow, and got them on pallets. I had previously placed clear plastic over the design and traced out the cracks so that I would have a template.
There were about 8 pallets of rock. I set them beside our new shop.
We got our chips the latter part of March into the first of April.
That's ok, jumping through hoops is fun!
